INSPIRATIONAL

IT IS OVER, ONLY WHEN YOU GIVE UP

Success is brought about by the re-enforcement of your areas of initial failure. Those who desire to advance in the higher places of destiny often realise the need to be more equipped to succeed when they have failed before. There is often the saying that winners never quit, in other words, quitters never win. Perfection comes into play when you repeat what you once never succeeded on. The pathway to progressing in the higher places of your destiny is not devoid of the inability to succeed, often when you see success in failure. Failure is not an execrable phenomenon; the only hazardous aspect of failure is when you give up.

Those who quit so early, never get anywhere early in life. Success is not born instantaneously; it requires a continuous process that is not bereft of failure. In reality, failure is a veritable tool for success. The aftermath of your inability to succeed at the ab initio, results in a better success only when you don’t quit.

There is no individual who has achieved great feat in life without encountering the imminent challenges of failure. The disparity between those who fail and those who succeed is seen in their ability to get up on their feet irrespective of the number of times they have fallen; and keep the balls rolling. In the journey of life, the number of times that a person falls doesn’t matter, what matters most is his ability to get up and keep going. Little wonder why Solomon once said:

A just man falleth seven times, and rise up again, and don’t just rise up, but rise up and keep going”(proverbs 24:16, Authors words added).

Not until you rise after you have fallen, you are a failure, and it is over for you. The story was told of an American greatest test pilot-Bob Hoover- who wrestled out-of-control-jet back to the ground, fought fire in mod air and crashed many times. He broke his back in one crash and almost died. But as soon as he recovered, he climbed back into the cockpit of another super sabre and soared back into the heavens. When asked why, he responded “you gotta go back into the cockpit of the bird that bit ya”, in his Tennessee drawl. (Culled Form Forgetting your Past by Bod Gass). Bob Gass recounts:

“Any fear you won’t confront will ultimately control you, and what you fail to conquer will rule your life”. Failure tends to rule those who cannot conquer it. Failure has in it the content of fear that repels us from trying again, but until you over rule such fear, you will only succeed in making headway in dilemmic errors.

One amazing thing I have learned from birds is the fact that when they are learning how to fly, the number of times they fall and crash, doesn’t deter them from trying again, they don’t quit, not until they have mastered the act of flying. You cannot succeed when you give up trying. A friend of mine once gave up the stress of writing JAMB because he felt he was wasting resources. Failure is not a waste of resources; it is an investment into the central bank of your higher place in destiny. Failure has no option than to responds to success when confronted with boldness. A brother in the fellowship in my university days recounted how he never gave up writing JAMB and seeking for admission for good ten years. Finally, he gained admission to read law, and as at the time this book was written, he is a graduate of law.

That you have not succeeded does not mean that you are a failure. That you have failed today does not mean that you cannot succeed tomorrow, all you need to do is to start all over again, retire and re-fire vehemently at failure, and you will be glad you did.

John Maxwell says: “Failing doesn’t mean that I am a failure, it just means that I have not yet succeeded. It doesn’t mean I have accomplished nothing; it just means I’ve learnt something. It doesn’t mean I’ve been a fool; it just means I’ve had the courage to take a risk. It doesn’t mean I am inferior; it just means I’m not perfect. It doesn’t mean I’ve wasted my time; it just means I have a reason to start over. It doesn’t mean I should give up; it means I must try harder. It doesn’t mean I will never make it; it just means I need more practice. It doesn’t mean God has forgotten; it just means God has a better idea!”

While other people refer to failure as a stepping stone towards success, I often refer to failure as the drum beater of success. One thing I always tell my self is that I will never give up when there are provisions for me to try again. My growing up experience taught me a lot; I was always desperate to win a price in a crown cock from either coca cola; maltina, 7up and the like, during their promotional offers to the public. But one amazing thing that most often looks fraudulent about these promotional offers is the fact that people hardly win anything, all we get most times under the crown cock is “Try Again”. And because we needed to win the mouth-watering prizes, we kept trying again and again. The fact that I didn’t win in the previous crown did not stop me from going for the next bottle of 7up, cock or Fanta etc. It was in the latter part of life I realised that the philosophy of try again as put forward by various soft drink producing companies and the breweries, applies to all aspect of a person’s life. The philosophy behind the crown cock is this: “That you failed in the previous crown cock is not a yardstick for adjudging you a failure, take another step and try buying another bottle of cock, who knows, this might be the opportunity you have been looking for; just Try Again”.

Success is engendered by a continuous trying again and again, even when failure has set the pace; we change the course of action directed by failure, by adopting an advantageous new feasible strategy. The ability to keep trying is a realisation of the fact that the strength of the Almighty God is made perfect in our weaknesses.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. (2Corrinthians 12:9).
